In Fashion Design 2023

Embroidery is the craft of decorating fabric or other materials using a needle to apply thread or yarn. Embroidery may also incorporate other materials such as pearls, beads, quills, and sequins. In modern days, embroidery is usually seen on caps, hats, coats, overlays, blankets, dress shirts, denim, dresses, stockings, scarfs, and golf shirts. Embroidery is available in a wide variety of thread or yarn colour.

Flat Embroidery

Flat Embroidery is the simplest and most common embroidery types. Flat embroidery can make many thread colors, commonly from 1 to 9 colors, the more thread colors the more trouble and the higher the corresponding cost will be. Unlike the silk thread used in hand embroidery, embroidery machines need to use special embroidery threads, which can be divided into rayon and polyester-made silk. Besides professional embroidery threads, ordinary sewing threads can also be used for embroidery, preferably of 40/2 thickness, but the embroidered patterns lack a sense of luster.

Three-dimensional Embroidery

First, we place solid glue on the fabric, and then embroider the flower pattern on it. Since the glue has a certain thickness, the embroidery has a strong three-dimensional effect. Depending on the requirements of the pattern, the glue can be dissolved or undissolved, and the hollow three-dimensional effect can be achieved after dissolution.

Toothbrush embroidery

This process is to add a certain height of auxiliary material (such as EVA) to the fabric during the ordinary embroidery process. After the embroidery is finished, the embroidery threads on EVA are repaired and flattened with tools, and the auxiliary material is removed to create a toothbrush-like effect. Compared with towel embroidery, the thread of toothbrush embroidery is upright like a toothbrush instead of falling down.

Towel Embroidery

as the name suggests, the embroidery of woolen cords that stand up one by one like a towel is a three-dimensional embroidery with a soft and warm touch. It can be embroidered directly on the cutting piece or made into an embroidery piece. Computerized towel embroidery uses woolen yarn, the thickness is more suitable at 24S/2.

Applique embroidery

Applique embroidery is done by cutting out the applique cloth according to the pattern and attaching it to the embroidery surface, or by lining cotton and other things between the applique cloth and the embroidery surface to make the pattern rise and have a three-dimensional feeling. After the applique is applied, the edges are then locked with various stitches. The embroidery method is simple, using the patch instead of stitching, which not only saves embroidery thread but also makes the pattern more vivid.

Cross Stitch

Cross stitch is a popular hand embroidery craft, but now it can be imitated by machine, which greatly increases the added value of the machine; if the plate can be matched with a hand embroidery-like effect, it will stimulate the consumers' desire to buy.

Coarse thread embroidery

Coarse thread embroidery is done by using thick sewing thread as embroidery thread, with a large hole needle or large size needle, a coarse thread spinning shuttle and a 3mm needle plate, which can be produced by ordinary flat embroidery machines.

Chainstitch Embroidery

Computerized chain stitch is accomplished by changing the special machine head hooking action, forming quadrants and 8s with flat needle, thus bringing out stitch variations. Since the pattern is made up of loops with one loop after another, it has a strong sense of texture and a unique effect. There are two kinds of machine chain embroidery: one is made with towel embroidery machine, also called real chain embroidery; the other is the imitation chain pattern that comes from using embroidery machine.

Webbing/String Embroidery

the webbing/string is embroidered on the fabric, and the tape is coiled around on the fabric to form the shape. The webbing/string should not be very narrow, usually between 0.5cm~1.5cm for the webbing and 0.05cm~0.3cm for the string, you can use ribbon, cording, cotton string, frayed edges or strips cut out of the fabric.

Hole Carving Embroidery

Hole carving embroidery adds a unique pattern to ordinary flat embroidery. Simply attach the hole carving device to the first stitch of each flat embroidery machine head, and the hole carving knife carves small holes in the fabric according to the preset data at the time of stenciling, and then wraps the edge with flat embroidery.

Computerized water-soluble embroidery

Embroidered on the backing fabric by computerized flat-pole embroidery machine, then treated with hot water to dissolve the water-soluble non-woven backing fabric, leaving a lace with a three-dimensional sense. The lace has a wide variety of patterns, and the embroidery is delicate and beautiful, with the effect of imitation lace, rich in art and three-dimensional sense.

Sequin embroidery

various colors of high-temperature resistant PET material, which is environmentally friendly, are punched into sequin strips with a flitter machine and then embroidered on a machine equipped with a sequin embroidery device. There are various shapes of sequins, such as round, square, triangle, oval, irregular shape, etc. Sequin embroidery uses different thicknesses/densities/directions/sequin types/sizes/colors of sequins to form different levels and produce different decorative effects.

Imitation gemstone embroidery

A new process with more variations than imitation stone paste has been developed using flat gold thread embroidery and three-dimensional embroidery.

Tassel Embroidery

Tassel embroidery is the process of adding a whisker to a pattern, floating on the pattern like a fringe or whisker. This whisker is usually made by cutting a lot of embroidery threads and then fixing the whisker to the pattern with embroidery stitching.

Smocking

Smocking can be produced on ordinary flat embroidery machine, but it needs to be combined with shrinkage backing and water-soluble embroidery thread. After embroidering, the shrinkage backing is shrunken by heat to produce wrinkle effect, and when the water-soluble backing thread is dissolved by water, the backing can be separated from the fabric, but it should be noted that the effect is obvious only when the fabric is made of thin chemical fiber fabric.

Embroidery Machine

The main functions of the embroidery machine are determined by the number of heads, head spacing, number of stitches, maximum travel of the embroidery frame in X and Y directions, electronic control system, manufacturer's brand, etc. The number of working heads determines the efficiency of the embroidery machine; the distance between two adjacent heads determines the size and cost of a single embroidery piece or cycle; the number of single needles per head determines the maximum number of color changes and the color of the embroidery piece; the maximum travel of the embroidery frame in X and Y directions determines the size of the embroidery piece.

▲Machine embroidery can be carried out on an industrial scale with multiple needles on one machine.

From the viewpoint of embroidery machine manufacturing, it is quite difficult to realize large patterns and super multi-color patterns. To realize a single embroidery head to produce a large format rust, a frame of the corresponding size for the embroidery is required. As for multi-head computerized embroidery machines, due to the limitation of head distance, a single head cannot be made very large, thus limiting the number of available stitch bars (number of colors) to a maximum of 15 colors for automatic switching.

Based on Rico's inkjet technology and Coloreel's dyeing technology, Ricoh and Coloreel, an innovative Swedish R&D company, have developed a Instant Thread Coloring Unit, this technology of their work together will be the beginning to transform the embroidery machine industry.

Coloreel's innovative technology provides high quality and instant dyeing of the textile threads in the production process. by instantly and simultaneously dyeing the raw white threads, allowing no restrictions on the use of colors in the embroidery production process and thus ensuring the manufacturer's freedom of color choice, especially for special embroidery products.

This advanced technology will complement all existing embroidery machines in the market.

▲How coloreel works

No scrapping of obsolete thread stock

Because you can print any color instantly using a single white thread, the Coloreel technology provides access to literally thousands of colors. A colorful abundance that eliminates stock of obsolete threads.

Improve productivity up to 300%

By instantly coloring the thread while producing, the technology reduces thread reel changes, enabling you to produce faster with many colors and to go quickly from one order to the next without having to change reels. This greatly reduces setup time and improves productivity of complex designs by up to 300%.
